چکیده
An immunologically deficient patient had two large nodular densities on the chest x-ray film. On autopsy, large solid accumulations and diffuse pneumonitis with Pneumocystis carinii were found. This represents an unusual manifestation of Pneumocystis carinii.

Roentgenographic patterns of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in 104 patients with AIDS.
We reviewed the initial and follow-up chest roentgenograms (CXR) of 104 patients with the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) diagnosed between 1981 and 1985 in order to determine the relative frequencies of its various roentgenographic patterns. Although a diffuse bilateral interstitial infiltrate is most common, it was concluded that unusual and...

This report of concurrent granulomatous Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (GPCP) and Mycobacterium xenopi pneumonia (MXIP) in a patient with advanced HIV disease 3-5 weeks after commencing antiretroviral therapy (ART) fits the syndrome of HIV immune reconstitution/restoration disease (IRD). It may also be a unique window into the immunology of granulomatous inflammation.
متن کاملPneumocystis carinii pneumonia and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome: an atypical presentation with lung cavitations.
The differential diagnosis of lung cavitations is very broad. We report a case of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) with lung cavitations on the chest X-ray in a patient with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). We discuss the differential diagnosis of such an X-ray pattern and emphasize that multiple cavitations can be a roentgenographic presentation of PCP.
متن کاملDiagnosis of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. Roentgenographic-pathologic correlates based on fiberoptic bronchoscopy specimens from patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.
We analyzed the diagnosis of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia by fiberoptic bronchoscopy in a large series of patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Transbronchial biopsy fragments, as opposed to endobronchial specimens, were found to have high diagnostic value. Their optimal number for diagnosis was determined by a simple statistical principle. It varied from a minimum of t...
